SCIR-NEIST upgraded
Imphal, March 03 2013 : The CSIR: North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) formerly known as Regional Research Laboratory, Substation, Lamphelpat, Imphal has been upgraded to the status of Branch Laboratory with effect from 21st February 2013 .

Herbal cure for arthritis on anvil

NEW DELHI: Scientists from the North-East have come out with a herbal balm made out of edible plants found in the region, which can cure the two most common type of arthritis.
………Developed by scientists at the North-East Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat, the balm was found safe and efficacious during animal and human trials. A common ailment for middle aged and old persons, arthritis is caused by inflammation of connective tissues in joints, resulting in pain, swelling and stiffness……..

NEIST promises herbal relief from pain, itching

JORHAT: The CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology, which has so far concentrated on research, has decided to foray into production from March with the manufacture of two herbal medicines.
Director P.G. Rao said the institute was going in for manufacturing so that people could get medicines at affordable prices, as it was cost-effective to produce medicines that were based on aromatic herbs widely available in the region…..

CSIR-NEIST and USTM sign MoU to make NE technology vibrant

JORHAT: An MoU was signed between CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) and University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) and other institutions under Education Research & Development Foundation (ERDF) here on Friday.
“Since CSIR-NEIST and ERDF are both working towards the goal of regional development through focused attention on the youth of the region, it was felt that synergizing their efforts and endeavours would multiply their achievements in manifold ways. CSIR-NEIST and ERDF will partner in all development activities, share resources and organize regular programmes, in which scientists from CSIR-NEIST will work together with the faculty and research scholars of USTM & ERDF institutions and evolve new strategies for joint action to make the region science and technology vibrant,” P G Rao, NEIST director said……
‘Northeast needs new road making techniques for growth’

AGARTALA: To ensure enhanced rural connectivity, growth, investment and environmental protection, sustainable new technology must be adopted in road construction in India, specially in the mountainous northeastern region, experts and scientists said here Monday.
“New, alternative and superior technologies of road construction – including cold mix, tools using public waste, plastic waste, natural rubber, jute – have to be followed to get the better effect,” said P.G. Rao, scientist and director of Assam’s Jorhat-based North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST)..
Rural connectivity vital to prosperity in North East

DIMAPUR: Roads are integral to the growth of societies and it is imperative for North Eastern states to embrace the many new alternative and superior technologies of road construction including cold mix, public waste and jute.
“This would not only ensure enhanced rural connectivity – critical for growth – but also give a much-needed push to the Central Government funded scheme Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), which aims to provide connectivity to all unconnected habitations in the rural areas in a time bound manner. Experts and senior scientists from Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), North East Institute of Science & Technology and Tripura Public Works Department echoed these concerns at a seminar on “Sustainable Technologies for Road Construction in North East” on Friday in Agartala.
