AcSIR summer programme named Kalam Fellowship

MYSURU: As a tribute to the former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) has named its two month-long summer training programme as Kalam Fellowship.

AcSIR, a research academy created by an Act of Parliament as an institute of national importance, offers a two-month training programme at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) with a consolidated fellowship of Rs. 25,000….

Centre’s green signal for Science Academy in Nagpur

Nagpur: The Centre has agreed to set up an Academy of Science and Innovative Research of international repute in the city which will provide ample opportunities to the academicians all over the country intending to carry out research in the field of science and technology. The Union Cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday cleared the proposal and the same was conveyed by Union Minister for Science and Technology, Vilasrao Deshmukh to city Congress MP Vilas Muttemwar who had taken up the issue with Centre….

Parliament Gives Nod to AcSIR Bill

27 December 2011

Parliament today passed a bill that would enable the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research to start an academy to award post-graduate and doctoral degrees after making certain amendments.

The Lok Sabha agreed to the amendments made by the Rajya Sabha last week to the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) Bill, 2011, which makes it clear that the Academy would not invoke central laws to deny reservation to SC/ST students.

Science and Technology Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh moved the amendments made by the Rajya Sabha for consideration of the Lok Sabha, which were agreed to after a brief discussion…..

RS nod to AcSIR Bill with amendments

The Rajya Sabha today passed a bill that would enable the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research to start an academy to award post-graduate and doctoral degrees after making certain amendments. The amendments to the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) Bill, 2011, moved by Minister for Science and Technology Vilasrao Deshmukh, makes it clear that the Academy would not invoke central laws to deny reservation to SC/ST students. The Lok Sabha has passed the Bill in September, but with the Rajya Sabha making amendments to it, the draft legislation has to go back to the Lower House for approval…..

Youngsters Should Join Innovative Scientific Research to Secure World Leadership: Deshmukh

Shri Vilas Rao Deshmukh, Union Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences urged youngsters to join innovative scientific research in our country and take up the challenge of securing our leadership. Addressing at the celebration of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) here today, he referred the bill of Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) in the Lok and expressed confidence that it will emerge as a world class organization to secure India’s leadership in tomorrow’s science. Shri Deshmukh said, “This would attract the best students to remain in the country and will enable them to out-compete and out-innovate the rest of the world.

Lauding the first flight of CNM5 – a 5 seater civil aircraft in the 1st week of this month, Shri Deshmukh congratulated CSIR for its design and development. The aircraft has been developed in partnership with Mahindra Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. “This success is a unique example of a public-private partnership in civil aviation which has brought pride to the country. CSIR has been contributing over the years not only directly to Indian science and technological developments but has been contributing in a very significant way in the programmes being run by other science departments as well, both in strategic and non-strategic sectors. CSIR is ushering in an innovation culture in India. It is now partnering with National Innovation Council to set up Cluster Innovation Centres,” he added…..
