India needs to translate knowledge into products and services: Dr Mohan Rao

Highlighting that India has vast pool of knowledge in biology, chemistry, physics and medicine and pharmaceuticals, it is high time this knowledge is translated into valuable products and services for social good, opined Dr. Mohan Rao, director of Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and president of Telangana Academy of Sciences (TAS).

While taking part at the CCMB-Distinguished Lecture Series in Hyderabad, Sir Richard John Roberts, Nobel prize winner in geochemistry and molecular biology, also gave a call to the scientists in India and across the globe to come on to platform and stressed the need to work in tandem for further research on genetically modified organisms (GMO). The Nobel laureate has lauded formation of advocacy group for GMO. “GMO is important as it is precision plant breeding which is safe scientifically. If GMO is not taken up further people will starve with lack of food in future,” opined the Nobel laureate…
