‘We are now into seismically active period’

In the wake of increased seismic activity globally in the recent years and clustering of major earthquakes, well-established theories on the occurrence of temblors were coming into question, according to R.K. Chadha, Chief Scientist at CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) here.

Talking to The Hindu , he said that during the last eight years, starting with the 9.3 magnitude earthquake off the Sumatra coast in 2004, there have been seven temblors of magnitude 8 and above in the Sumatra-Java region and two of them occurred this year….
