Project to mitigate arsenic groundwater contamination

HYDERABAD: Is erosion of Himalayan rocks causing arsenic contamination of groundwater and posing a serious health hazard to 300 million people across several States in Ganga-Brahmaputra region?

Answer to this question by identifying the source, causes of arsenic contamination, assessment of arsenic release mechanism and several other aspects will be studied in a massive Rs.100-crore project involving CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute and 14 other national laboratories, including the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB). It is expected to be launched in two months after approval from the Planning Commission………
