CCMB kicks off zebrafish research

An exclusive laboratory for research on zebrafish, an alternative animal model for mouse, was inaugurated at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology on Monday.

CCMB director Dr Ch Mohan Rao said the genome of zebrafish is similar to that of human beings, which prompted CCMB to deal exclusively with this fish to investigate development biology in vertebrates. Zebrafish is an important model to study human diseases, he said.

Prof Samir K. Brahmachari, director-general at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, inaugurated the 4000 square feet research facility as a separate building on the CCMB campus…..
