IICT scientist bags award

HYDERABAD: In the fluoride-hit villages of Nalgonda district in Andhra Pradesh, people are able to drink purified water thanks to a low-cost plant designed by the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) here.

The presence of fluoride in water has, in decades, led to problem of fluorosis, which cripples limbs. Efforts by various agencies have led to some solutions that help in removing the harmful fluoride from the drinking water sources.

One of the efforts that led to the development of hollow fibre membrane modules for purification of surface water has won Dr S. Sridhar of the Chemical Engineering Division of the IICT a NASI-Scopus Young scientist award…..
