NCL urged to develop biogas tech for sugar cos

Pune: Union minister for science and technology and earth sciences, Vilasrao Deshmukh, urged theNational Chemical Laboratory (NCL) here to develop biogas technology that could help the 200 sugar factories in the state.

“The amount of bagasse produced by the sugar factories is tremendous. This bagasse must be utilised properly, he said at the NCL on Monday.

The NCL is presently developing a technology to use biomass for valueadded chemicals and fuels. Deshmukh said, “The NCL must interact with sugar factory owners and provide a solution to create a value-added product that will benefit sugar factories.”…
