India plans regional transport aircraft worth Rs 7,555 crore

BANGALORE: India plans to develop a regional transport aircraft with an estimated cost of Rs 7,555 crore, in its mission to become a global player in civil aeronautics. “We will support it fully,” Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Ashwani Kumar said. “We need to have this aircraft. In fact, I wish we had this aircraft many years ago,” he said. Bangalore-based National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), under the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research has just completed a feasibility study on design and development of a national civil aircraft for regional connectivity under the guidance of a High Powered Committee, chaired by former ISRO Chairman G Madhavan Nair. A press statement issued by the the Ministry during Kumar’s press conference at NAL said the aircraft would help connect Tier-II and Tier-III cities with the major metros, thereby boosting inclusive economic growth of India…..
