CCMB, US institute sign pact for Glaucoma

HYDERABAD: Centre for Cellular and Molecular Microbiology (CCMB) in collaboration with Nebraska University Medical Centre (NUMC), a USA-based research institute will jointly carry out research work to find a cure for Glaucoma.Glaucoma causes damage in the optic nerve which, starting from the peripheral region of the eye slowly spreads to the entire eye, leading to complete blindness in the patient.CCMB and NUMC signed a three-year agreement for research exchanges and cooperation today. Funded by governments of both India and the US, the research work will focus on genes responsible for Glaucoma. While signing the pact, Donald S Leuenberger, vice-chancellor, NUMC and Dr Ch Mohan Rao, director, CCMB expressed their hopes for long-lasting commitment towards cooperation in other medical studies as well, including application of stem cells in eye disorders, diabetes and pancreatic cancer…..
