Delhi Building Collapse: CBRI to Submit Report Soon

A team of experts from the Central Building Research Institute will submit a report to the MCD soon after a survey of structures in the city locality where a house collapse killed 70 people last week.

It is also likely to inspect buildings in other east Delhi areas.

A team of experts from the Roorkee-based institute arrived in the national capital yesterday following a request by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and carried out a joint extensive survey of the collapsed building at Lalita Park in Laxmi Nagar along with officials of the civic body. They also collected samples of the material used.

The teams also visited the other sealed and vacated buildings constructed by the same builder in the area.

“The CBRI experts are examining the matter and going into various technical aspects. The team feels that it needs a few more days to study the structural aspects of the collapsed, sealed and vacated buildings as well as the 36 buildings declared unsafe at Lalita Park,” an MCD official said.

“They will continue to study the matter for a few more days and subsequently submit the report to MCD,” the official said, adding, the corporation will take further action after the report is submitted by the CBRI experts.

Sources said the team is also likely to inspect buildings in other east Delhi areas to ascertain their condition…..
